MANHASSET AWARD-WINNING BATHROOM DESIGN

…there lived a family of four with preteen children. After having lived in their beautiful Tudor style home for 15 years, it was time for this husband and wife to have the master bedroom suite that they deserved.

I had previously worked on the living room, dining room and secondary bedrooms, so was familiar with the home and eager to embark on this next stage of design which would also include the hall bath on the main floor.

Their design style… modern transitional glamor

What I rescued them from…

  • A boring, outdated and dark master bedroom suite
  • Insufficient lighting throughout
  • A moldy and outdated hall bath

How I Gave Them Their Fairytale Ending:

The key to achieving the look, without making any major modifications to the overall layout, lay in the rich mix of materials and finishes.

Using antique mirrored tiles, I created a “faux fireplace” to create a focal point. Given its placement behind the tub, the firebox area serves as the perfect niche for towels and bath products.

The drivers behind this design were rest, relaxation, and pampering. With that in mind, I also included an oversized towel warmer, a double vanity, and a decorative wall with a mirrored niche to conceal the toilet from view upon entering the space.

For the adjoining master bedroom I used a soft, soothing color palette. To create a feeling of grandeur and add height to the low, 8’ ceilings, I designed silk wallpaper paneled inserts and added a raised, tray ceiling.

The custom window treatments both emphasize the grand size of the windows and highlight the beautiful garden views.

Every creature comfort was thought of so that my clients can decompress and destress the moment they enter.

For the dressing room I evoked the chic and classic Chanel aesthetic that my client was so fond of.

The essence: Classic glamor, luxury, vitality

Their New Storybook Setting:

  • A freestanding stone oval tub, large enough for 2
  • Hotel-style shower with body sprays
  • Layered lighting to create different moods
  • A feminine, fully decked out walk-in closet
  • An attractive, tasteful guest bath

Once upon a time this lovely couple was unhappy with their most private and personal space — their master suite. I was able to transform the spaces that were causing their discontent.

In fact, this metamorphosis was so spectacular that this fairy godmother even received recognition! I am proud to say that the master bathroom won the...
